Sony Ericsson’s gaming phone will be officially unveiled at Mobile World Congress this coming Sunday.
The Xperia Play, or PlayStation Phone as it’s also known, will be revealed at 6pm on the Sunday evening, according to an official Sony Ericsson announcement.
Trusted Reviews printed a copy of the invite, which proclaims that “Android is ready to play”, and describes the phone as a “gamechanger”. Yes, an old chestnut of a buzzword, but at least partially relevant here in terms of the “game” bit.
The Xperia Play is graced with a 4 inch display (with a resolution of 854 x 480), 1GHz processor and Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) on board. It has a slide-out gamepad rather than a keyboard, and looks like a very slick piece of hardware.
Sony Ericsson stumped up for an ad for the PlayStation Phone at yesterday’s Superbowl XLV, which must have cost them a pretty cent or two. Exactly how the gaming phone will slot in alongside the upcoming NGP (PSP2), we’ll have to see.
