Gears Of War Exile set to launch for the Kinect

The new Gears Of War game for the Xbox 360 named Gears of War Exile, has been confirmed to be an ‘on-rails shooter’ game for the Xbox Kinect.

For those of you who do not know, an on-rails shooter game is a game where the computer moves your character for you, moving along a set track and stopping in every stage to give players the opportunity to shoot.

Games such as this are usually found in many games arcades, and it is rare that these games leave the arcade machines, save for one or two such as the ‘Time Crisis’ games.

However, the Kinect has finally given on-rails shooter games a new chance to shine outside the gaming rooms.

This is very good news for any true hardcore gamer, due to the fact that the Kinects game library lacks any games really designed for hardcore gamers.

A demo of Gears Of War Exile shows that the game seems to have re-used assets of Gear Of War 2, mixed in with the Kinect’s gesture recognition to do things such as shoot, and answer headset calls.

The game was originally meant to debut during Spike TV’s last Video Game Awards show. However at the last minute, it was pulled from the line up and was promised to reveal itself at a later date.

Epic Games design director, Cliff Bleszinski stated, “It turns out the timing was not right,” regarding the matter.

Bleszinski also confirmed that there would be no Kinect involved in Gears Of War 3, and that the on-rails shooter is a completely separate game.
