HP Pre 3 smartphone unveiled

After the revelation of the TouchPad, HP’s new 10 inch dual-core webOS tablet, the company also has a smartphone up its sleeve.

Yes, the HP Pre 3 is the sequel to the Palm Pre 2, obviously, although the Palm moniker has been dropped.

Unsurprisingly it’s webOS powered, and the hardware consists of a speedy 1.4GHz Snapdragon processor, a 3.6 inch multi-touch display (800 x 480), a slide-out Qwerty keyboard complete with backlight, and twin cameras no less.

A VGA camera is on the front for video chats, and there’s a rear facing 5 megapixel affair with autofocus and flash that’s capable of 720p recording. 8 or 16GB of memory will be on board, and the mobile will also boast bluetooth, wi-fi and integrated GPS.

A high capacity battery is promised, along with true multi-tasking, and extra features such as touch-to-share, where the user can simply touch the smartphone to HP’s TouchPad tablet to transfer URLs.

Jon Rubinstein, Senior VP and General Manager of Palm Global Business Unit at HP, commented: “Pre 3 is our premier phone, designed for the speed of business. It enables professionals to accomplish more of their important workday tasks while easily keeping their fingers on the pulse of their personal lives.”

Like the TouchPad slate, HP says the Pre 3 will be available this summer.
