Activision planning Take-Two acquisition?

by Darren Allan

It seems that Activision might be looking to purchase Take-Two Interactive.

The move would bring more massive franchises under Activision’s already well-stuffed belt, including the likes of Bioshock and of course Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto.

This speculation originates from gaming trade mag MCV, who were told by a senior exec source that “there are very strong rumours amongst people at a very senior level within the global business”.

It would certainly make quite a replacement for the recently axed True Crime and Guitar/DJ Hero franchise.

However, this is still very much just a rumour at this stage, no matter how loud the whispers are. The volume is possibly due to the fairly odd move of canning True Crime when it was almost finished, and had received some quite positive previews in the gaming press. The theory being that perhaps it was sacrificed in anticipation of avoiding a clash with GTA.

Yes, it all sounds a bit remote as a possibility, but stranger things have certainly happened in the games industry.
