More fuel for imminent iPad 2 launch

Could the iPad 2 be out later next month? More weight has been added to this speculation by an article on 9 to 5 Mac, which noted that the iPad is going out of stock at some retailers. A possible sign that the new model is almost ready for shipping.

9 to 5 Mac cites the fact that the Carphone Warehouse has sold out of 64GB wi-fi iPads, and all 3G models, the latter of which is particularly telling. European distributor Ingram Micro has also sold out of some models, including the basic 16GB wi-fi tablet.

This comes on top of the news yesterday that Orange and T-Mobile have slashed their contract iPad prices.

In Orange’s case, the 16GB wi-fi and 3G tablet was previously pitched with an up-front fee of £229 and £199, for new customers and existing customers respectively. That has now been cut to £99 on both counts.

Again, this seems like a move to try and shift some iPad stock before the sequel turns up.

Just to confuse matters, however, it seems that Bloomberg Businessweek is reporting that the iPad 2 may be delayed due to “production bottlenecks” at the manufacturer, and will slip from an April launch date to early summer.

As ever, all of this is rumour. We guess the only real clue we’ll have that the iPad 2 is definitely imminent is when Apple actually comes out and officially announces the tablet’s spec, finally…
