Those of you looking for an iPad alternative might be interested to learn that Motorola’s Xoom tablet has been priced up for the UK. Kind of.
The Register Hardware spotted the tablet up for pre-order on the PC World site, costing £450. The price and pre-order button have since been removed, replaced by a simple “For more information, come back soon.”
But the Reg snapped a screenshot of the website with the price clearly shown. It’s much cheaper than we were expecting, assuming that this is the correct price, of course.
Although bear in mind that this is the wi-fi version of the Xoom. Carphone Warehouse has the exclusive on the 3G model.
Even so, it’s still much more wallet-friendly than we anticipated, for a 10 inch slate with a resolution of 1280 x 800, a 1GHz dual-core processor, twin cameras (one a 5 megapixel affair capable of 720p recording), an accelerometer, gyroscope, HDMI out plus Android Honeycomb.
The Xoom is already out in the US, and Motorola reckons sales are off to a brisk start, although it’s still very early days, and the company hasn’t provided any figures to back up that assertion.
