Facebook passed a big milestone last year when it officially recorded over half a billion users globally.
And now the social networking site has hit another landmark figure, this time a more local one. Apparently, half of the population of the UK are now signed up to Facebook.
In other words, 30 million users. Facebook’s European VP, Joanna Shields, announced this achievement at a conference in London, according to a report by the Daily Telegraph.
She said: “We can announce today that we have reached 30 million in the UK, which we are really excited about.”
This means that every second person you see when you walk down the street is on Facebook. They’re the ones who bump into you as you walk past, with their noses buried in their smartphones.
According to a recent study of the most popular web brands conducted by UKOM/Nielsen, Facebook is the third biggest name on the web, behind Google and MSN.
