Dragon Age II swoops to top of UK game chart

by Darren Allan

Dragon Age 2

This week’s all-format UK game chart is out, courtesy of Chart Track, and the predictable news is that Dragon Age II has gone straight to number one.

It’s EA’s third number one of the year, FIFA 11 and Dead Space 2 being the others. Although it comes along with some controversy surrounding the RPG’s launch, including a spat over SecuROM protection and mistaken player bans.

In terms of the split of sales, the majority of dragon fans were Xbox owners, with 57% of sales on Microsoft’s console. The PC was almost up with the PS3, with a 21% and 22% share respectively.

The two Pokemon games held the number one and two spots last week, and these fell to number two (Pokemon White) and number four (Pokemon Black), with sales halving.

Fight Night Champion hung on in as a non-mover at number three, between the two Pokemons, with Just Dance 2 at number five. A pair of shooters followed Ubisoft’s dance game, Bulletstorm and then Killzone 3.

A couple of long-time top ten stalwarts were next, FIFA 11, and then Black Ops. THQ’s uDraw Studio shot up the chart with its sales trebling to snag the number ten spot (it was number eighty-three last week after its launch).
