YouTube snaps up Green Parrot to improve video quality

by Darren Allan

Google intends to strengthen YouTube further with the purchase of an Irish outfit which specialises in improving the quality of video.

Green Parrot Pictures was snapped up by the company for an undisclosed number of pieces of eight.

The company announced on its website: “We’re excited to join Google, where we will apply our expertise to improve the online video experience for hundreds of millions of users worldwide on many different products, platforms and services.”

Green Parrot’s expertise has previously been used in the film industry across the globe. It’s seriously heavyweight stuff, as the Inquirer notes, seeing action in post-production for the likes of The Lord of the Rings, X-Men and Spiderman.

The company’s algorithms are designed to sharpen pictures, remove camera shake, flickers and blotches, that sort of thing.

How good they can make a two minute mobile phone filmed clip of a cat playing a piano look, we shall soon find out.
