iPad 2: prices

by Brian Turner

Apple launch the iPad 2 in the UK on Friday, with online ordering available from 1pm, and in-store buying from 5pm.

If you’re looking to buy just the iPad 2 device without a 3G plan, then these are the official prices you should expect to pay:

iPad Wi-fi only

  • 16GB: £399
  • 32GB: £479
  • 64GB: £559

iPad Wi-fi + 3G enabled

  • 16GB: £499
  • 32GB: £579
  • 64GB: £659

Even though the iPad completely dominates the touchscreen tablet market, competitors are struggling to get devices shipped out and ready for market even as Apple launches the second series iPad device.

Additionally, competitors are also having problems fighting Apple on price point.

While no doubt at some point in the future, the market for touchscreen tablets will include different budget levels, at present the Apple iPad 2 has no serious competition.

This is not least because both Samsumg and RIM will not be entering the market proper until the coming months, leaving Apple with a good year’s march over its competition.
