Microsoft has declared the public beta of Office 365 open, with it being available in no less than 38 countries.

The cloud-based office suite consists of Office Web Apps alongside hosted versions of Exchange and Sharepoint, with Microsoft Lync providing online communications and sharing features, C-net reports.

When the last bugs have been squashed and the service rolls out properly, two payment schemes will be available to businesses. These will start from $6 per person, per month, for the most basic plan which should suit smaller organisations.

Flexibility is the name of the game for Office 365, and it can be used across all devices, from PCs to smartphones, pretty much anything with a web browser.

Microsoft has also opened up an Office 365 Marketplace to provide business apps and services for Office 365 which have been vetted by MS. Over 150 companies are already offering their wares in the marketplace.
