White iPhone 4 to hit UK this week

The white iPhone 4 is about to be released, unsurprisingly, as last week we had a load of speculation which pointed to this week for the launch.

3 even put the 32GB white smartphone on sale very briefly before pulling it. And while it isn’t a cast-iron guarantee, the latest news seems to suggest the snowy iPhone 4 will indeed be on sale in the next few days.

According to an Engadget report, Vodafone has stock and actually sold one to a punter last week, with the salesperson ringing it up as a black model (there’s a photo of the package to prove it).

Voda then sent out a notice to ensure no more white handsets were sold – until next week, the network ordered. Which is now this week, of course.

9to5 Mac also reports a source from the Netherlands dating the European launch of the pale iPhone 4 more specifically, pegging it at this Wednesday in fact. This article also notes that supplies may be limited. Well, this is an Apple product launch, so we wouldn’t expect any less.

So if you want your white iPhone 4 come the middle of the week, best dust off those camping chairs and prepare the thermos for a long queueing session.

Will folks really be that keen to get the white version, or is everyone fed up of waiting for it now? What might also dissuade would-be purchasers is the fact that the iPhone 5 is just around the corner.

Or is it? Some reports have pointed to the iPhone 5 being due for an autumn launch – or maybe even later in the year. Could the white blower be a stop-gap to tide over Apple phone fans until late 2011? If so, it’s possibly not a particularly effective one…
