O2, Vodafone and 3 to carry BlackBerry Bold 9900

by Darren Allan

Three major UK networks have now come forward to announce they will be stocking the latest BlackBerry smartphone which was unveiled earlier this week.

The Bold 9900 will be carried by O2, Vodafone and 3, although no one has moved to announce any precise release date or pricing yet. The phone is expected to launch this summer, although whether early or late in the season, Rim hasn’t made clear.

3 also gave summer as the vague release date, with Sylvia Chind, Head of Handsets, commenting: “The BlackBerry Bold 9900, with the new feature-packed BlackBerry 7 operating system, is an excellent addition to the 3 smartphone range.”

“Our award winning 3G network will bring the new operating system to life so that our customers can be free to browse the web quickly and download apps on this slim new phone.”

As well as OS 7, the Bold 9900 will boast a 2.8 inch capacitive “liquid graphics” VGA touchscreen, along with a Qwerty keyboard and optical trackpad.

The processor will be a 1.2GHz affair, backed up with 8GB of storage and a 5 megapixel camera (capable of 720p recording). Other innovations include NFC technology (which will eventually facilitate mobile payments).

While Orange and T-Mobile haven’t yet joined the Bold 9900 party, it’s a fair bet they will.
