Facebook and Google in possible Skype deals

by Darren Allan

Two giants of the Internet, Google and Facebook, are both considering separate deals with Skype.

This is according to two sources with “direct knowledge” of the discussions, Reuters reports.

One source said Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg had been involved in internal discussions about whether to purchase Skype, with the figures being mentioned hitting $3 to $4 billion.

Another source claimed the social network was after some sort of joint venture. That same source also said Google has already been in talks regarding partnering up with the web video service in some form.

All of this is still in the early stages and very much up in the air. And unsurprisingly, none of the three companies offered any comment on the speculation.

It would make sense for Facebook to be keener to grab Skype, as the social network would gain more from it, given that Google already has its own tech when it comes to web chat and video.
