Samsung Galaxy S II boasts 3 million pre-orders

by Darren Allan

The sequel to the Samsung Galaxy S already seems to be a hit, with a global rush of pre-orders for the smartphone as of the end of last month.

The original Galaxy S made great waves for Samsung in the smartphone market, and the S II had racked up a total of some 3 million pre-orders at the end of April, the company reckons.

While the handset is now out in some parts of the world, including the UK and Korea, it isn’t even available for pre-order over in the US yet, which makes that 3 million figure sound all the more impressive. Eventually the S II is due to roll out to 120 countries worldwide.

Samsung expects the device to eclipse the original Galaxy’s success, and that wouldn’t surprise anyone. The company is hoping for 10 million plus sales over the course of the rest of the year.

It’s certainly going to be one of the strongest Android contenders out there, powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, along with a 4.3 inch Super AMOLED Plus display, and an 8 megapixel camera (with LED flash, and full HD) along with a front-facer for video calls.
