Onkyo HT-X22HDX 3D 2.1 Home Cinema System

by Franz Bicar

I am pretty sure a lot of you haven’t heard of Onkyo before. But the company has been around for quite some time now. Since 1946, Onkyo has been manufacturing and specializing in home cinema and audio equipment. But enough history lessons, were here to see how the Onkyo HT-X22HDX fair against its competition.

The Onkyo HT-X22HDX was designed to ensue elegance and style matched only by its brilliance at delivering immersive and convincing surround sound.

The standard package comes with a combination subwoofer and 2 front speakers which deals with mid to high range audio. Onkyo HTX22HDX decodes high-definition surround-sound codecs including Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio; employs quality Burr-Brown DACs for all channels, these all takes complete benefit from the high data capacity of the Blu ray format. Having just 2.1 channels, users tend to underestimate the power of these speakers. However, the HT-X22HDX is here to surprise all skeptics.

Furthermore, the HT-X22HDX allows users to connect Blu-ray or DVD players via its 3 HMDI 1.4a inputs and 1 output. Sound is picked up either through its 2 optical input, 1 coaxial input, or its left and right composite audio inputs. With its 3 HDMI inputs, users can connect their Blu-ray player, XBOX, PS3, SKY/Virgin HD Box and cable/sat tuner simultaneously. You don’t have to plug and unplug anything, the HDMI inputs are sufficient.

If you are keen on the upcoming 3D videos, HDMI 1.4a is also compatible with it and even lets you run an Audio Return Channel from your display’s tuner back to the receiver.

With Onkyo HTX22HDX’s new overlaid On-Screen Display (OSD) feature, it is very easy to adjust any of the setting dynamically. On-screen set-up menus appear overlaid on the video image currently being played.

Before you buy this piece of equipment, you should realize that the Onkyo HT-X22HDX is designed for small spaces like small living rooms, study, games rooms or bedrooms. If you do have a bigger room, don’t worry, you have a choice of either 2.1 or 5.1 speaker packs. You can upgrade and get the extra centre and rear surround speakers, which add a whole new dimension to the system. This upgrade will give the rear-effects channels that a full 5.1 system offers.
