BlackBerry PlayBook on sale today at Selfridges

June 15, 2011

Rim’s QNX-powered PlayBook tablet has finally gone on sale in the UK, after launching in the US back in April.

The one good thing that we’ve benefited from because of the two month wait is that some bugs which plagued the initial delivery of the device have now been ironed out.

If you want to get a PlayBook today, however, you’ll have to buy it from Selfridges in London, as the store has an exclusive head-start on the rest of the UK’s retailers who will begin selling tomorrow.

So what’s the cost? For the basic 16GB version, a £399 price tag has been attached, stepping up to £479 for 32GB, and £559 for the top-end 64GB slate. Only wi-fi versions are available currently.

The 7 inch tablet has a 1GHz dual-core processor and twin cameras (5 megapixel on the back, 3 megapixel on the front).

The device has received somewhat mixed reviews, being criticised not only for a lack of 3G support but also apps.
