Acer has taken the wraps off a new portable mini-projector, the C110.

A light and compact device, it measures 11cm by 8.5cm (with a thickness of 2.5cm), and weighs just 175 grams. A single USB cable is all that’s required to hook it up to your notebook or computer, with no power cable necessary.

The unit can then be used to show off pictures, movies or presentations on the computer, projected in display sizes from a minimum of 12 inches all the way up to 100 inches in 16:9 WVGA resolution (854×480).

Rated at 1000:1 in terms of contrast, the C110 combines DLP and LED lamp technology, with the latter providing benefits such as increased durability and a lamp life of an estimated 20,000 hours.

The LED lamp also offers better colour saturation and contrast, Acer claims, and the company’s “ColorSafe” technology is on board to prevent colour decay which can affect projectors over time (decay which results in the manifestation of yellow or green tints to the image).

In aesthetic terms, the unit comes in a “sophisticated” black case, and you can also order an optional Acer foldable screen. This is a compact projection screen which folds up to the size of a magazine, and when unfolded offers a 25 inch canvas for your C110 projector.

The Acer C110 pico-projector comes with a 5 year DLP chip warranty and 1 year on the lamp, and will go on sale at the end of August with a price tag of £199.
