Sony’s new handheld gaming console will be officially unveiled during the Tokyo Games Show, set to take place this September.
Sony Computer Entertainment of Japan’s President Hiroshi Kawano confirmed that the PlayStation Vita would make an appearance at the show, which runs from September 15th to the 19th.
Mr Kowano also confirmed that the event will bring forth further details on the device; such as the release date, launch line-up, pricing and UMD issues.
The comments came directly from the newly-released PlayStation Vita Community site.
Although the above information is yet to be announced, it has been rumoured the console will be available in the UK before Christmas.
Last month, UK retailer ShopTo published a list of games set to be released on the Vita with a cost of £39.99.
Their website also stated that the release date was slated for November 4th, although Sony denied that any official announcement had been made and that this was merely speculation.
What has been officially announced, however, are a number of the features the Vita will boast.
The console will allow users to connect to the Internet, either through 3G mobile broadband or a nearby Wi-Fi network.
The Vita will also be the latest device to take on the world of social gaming, as Sony says: “Locate, connect, discover, share and play with your friends wherever they are.”
