Infinity Ward has confirmed that the Wii version of the forthcoming Modern Warfare 3 will be developed by Treyarch.
The two devs have, for the past few years, taken it in turns to develop titles from the popular Call of Duty franchise.
Infinity Ward produced Call of Duty’s one, two, four, six and now eight (including three Modern Warfare titles) whilst Treyarch have worked on CoD’s three, five and most recently seven, Black Ops.
But Treyarch was asked to produce the Wii version for Modern Warfare which was out in 2009, two years after its release on other consoles.
Infinity Ward has now stated that they have asked Treyarch to, once again, make the Modern Warfare 3 transition from the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC over to the Wii.
Infinity Ward’s Robert Bowling explained: “The Wii has grown so much as a platform. The great thing is Treyarch proved that you can have an awesome experience on the Wii with Call of Duty. They’ll actually be handling that for Modern Warfare 3.”
Earlier this week it was confirmed by Activision that the Wii version will be available before the end of 2011.
Modern Warfare 3 comes out in November on the PS3, Xbox and PC, when it will go head to head with another big war shooter, EA’s Battlefield 3.
