According to publisher Activision, a handheld version of the forthcoming shooter Modern Warfare 3 will be released on the DS.
This specific edition of the game will be developed by n-Space, who has previously worked on DS versions of other Call of Duty titles including Modern Warfare, Modern Warfare 2, Black Ops and World at War.
Dan Amrich, Activision social media manager, has stressed that he believes the DS version is in “expert hands.”
The news follows last week’s announcement that a Nintendo Wii version of the game is also in development.
Working on the Wii adaptation is Treyarch, known for its own console Call of Duty games (World at War and Black Ops). They are also responsible for Wii versions of previous Modern Warfare titles.
The latest in the Call of Duty – and more specifically the Modern Warfare – series is set to be released on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC on November 8th.
Although the Wii title has been confirmed by Activision for release before the end of the year, no details have been released on a launch date for the DS version of the game.
Bobby Kotick, CEO of Activision, has stated that the interest in the upcoming Modern Warfare game has been unlike anything he has ever seen in the company’s history.
