Nintendo has announced a brand new version of the Wii console is set to be released in the UK before the end of the year.

The console is more or less identical to the original in terms of performance, although it’s different in the compatibility stakes in that it doesn’t support the use of GameCube discs.

It will also sit horizontally rather than the vertical console that is available currently, and will be a more streamlined unit.

The release of the new looking Wii will come in a package deal with Wii Sports, as the original also did, as well as Wii Party. A number of other bundle deals will be announced within the next few weeks.

In other Nintendo news, the Japanese company has released a list of all its forthcoming video games and their release dates.

The list includes a number of anticipated game titles from platforms such as the Wii, DS and the most recent creation, the 3DS.

Among the list of names is Star Fox 3DS, which is set to be released on September 9th in the UK.

However, certain games have only been given a month of release rather than a specific date, such as Mario Kart 7 and Super Mario Land – both 3DS titles.

The former will be released sometime in December, likely to be before Christmas, whilst the latter is scheduled for release in November. The price cut coupled with the emergence of big name Mario games for Christmas may well see the 3DS finally pick up pace in terms of its sales.
