EA have received early praise for their forthcoming Battlefield 3 video game, as the latest in the Battlefield franchise was named as the best game at this year’s GamesCom.

A panel of “expert jury of national and international media, press, and trade representatives” made the decision to present their most prestigious award to Battlefield, which is available to consumers at the end of October.

EA, however, were also winners outside of their upcoming first person shooter – as their titles picked up four of the eight prizes on offer from the panel.

EA Sports football game FIFA 2012, which is out at the end of September in the UK, managed to hold of its competitors to win best console game.

Also successful was Star Wars: The Old Republic, which has already smashed EA’s pre-order records, as it won best online video game – although it currently has no release date.

Also a winner was EA’s The Sims Social which won the Best Browser Game award, and will also become the first Sims game to go live on Facebook.

Other gaming winners went to Diablo III as it scooped the Best PC Game prize, as well as Sesame Street: Once upon a Monster which won the Best Family Game award.
