YouView has just announced that it has appointed an ex-Sky executive as its new Chief Technology Officer.
Chris Bramley previously worked as Chief Architect at BSkyB, where he was in charge of the staff responsible for Sky Anytime, Sky Player and Sky Go, the mobile streaming arm of the satellite broadcaster’s operation.
He’s also previously been employed at EMI Music, and was responsible for crafting the first over-the-top video on-demand service from a UK broadcaster five years ago.
As CTO, Bramley will take charge of the YouView technical team and is said to be immediately taking the reins and shaping the overall technology strategy for the IPTV platform.
Richard Halton, CEO, YouView said: “Chris has proven his technology leadership through delivering innovative new services into UK homes. He has the right expertise to lead YouView’s technical team through launch and to support the future growth of the platform. I am delighted to welcome him on-board.”
YouView is an upcoming free streaming service which is a joint venture between the Beeb, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5, BT, TalkTalk and Arqiva.
In the blog post regarding Bramley’s appointment, YouView noted that it was still on track to launch in early 2012, as was announced back in February. Originally, however, YouView was supposed to go live at the start of this year.
