There’s a new top dog at number one in the all-format UK game chart, and it’s Gears of War 3 which deposes Dead Island, last week’s biggest hit.
According to Chart Track, the Epic Games and Microsoft shooter has managed the biggest launch of the franchise by a long way, almost selling as much as the original Gears of War and the sequel combined.
Gears of War 3 is the seventh largest Xbox launch in history, and the twelfth largest individual format launch (it’s Xbox only, of course).
The game managed a 91% average on Metacritic. However, some have been critical of it being a somewhat unimaginative update which can get repetitive, certainly in the single player campaign – which has also had chunks torn out of its storyline.
Dead Island was actually knocked down to number three, as Codemasters also had F1 2011 out, which zoomed into second place.
Zumba Fitness continued to sell well for 505 Games, moving up to number four, followed by Deus Ex: Human Revolution and then Driver: San Francisco.
Both Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine and Resistance 3 slid five places down the chart to number seven and eight respectively.
Lego Pirates of the Caribbean and Rugby World Cup 2011 rounded off the top ten.
