Some good news for BlackBerry owners who suffered through that service outage last week, or at least the music loving BB fans out there.

Spotify has launched on BlackBerry, albeit in a somewhat limited fashion for the time being.

The streaming music service is available as a “preview” or beta version, although it’s only compatible with certain phones at the moment.

Spotify has tested it with the Bold 9000, 9700 and 9780, along with the Curve 8520 and 9300. The Torch 9800 unfortunately isn’t yet compatible with the app.

And also, as with all mobile listeners, you’ll need a premium subscription to use Spotify on your BlackBerry.

The functionality offered by the preview BB version includes the creation of playlists, search facility, browsing of new and top rated tracks, scrobbling to, and the ability to receive music from friends via your inbox.

It’s also possible to star favourite tracks and concoct offline playlists to listen when you’re not using your net connection.

Do bear in mind that the BlackBerry Spotify app might not work properly in some aspects, as this is still a project in testing.

That’s why it isn’t up on BlackBerry App World for download, not yet. If you want to get your copy of Spotify for BlackBerry, you can grab it here at the Spotify Labs site.

This is the sixth mobile platform Spotify has graced, and the final full version should be implemented in the near(ish) future.
