There are no surprises for this week’s chart, as the long awaited Batman: Arkham City has been released and shot straight to the top of the UK all-format chart like a turbo-charged Batmobile.
With glowing reviews all round, and a legion of fans from the excellent first outing Arkham Asylum, it sold twice as many as Asylum managed to shift in its first week.
Naturally it blew any competition away, although it didn’t come close to FIFA 12′s launch week sales figures a month or so ago. Indeed, perhaps surprisingly it only placed as the fourth biggest launch of this year, also lagging behind Gears of War 3 and LA Noire.
Speaking of FIFA 12, its sales fell again (by a third) but it still managed to hold on to number two. The EA game is likely to become a regular fixture in the chart as we move towards Christmas.
There was another new entry at number three – another football game, although this time a management affair: Football Manager 2012. The Sports Interactive title came close to taking number two, only a couple of thousand units shy of FIFA.
Forza 4, last week’s number one, found itself down at number four appropriately enough. Just Dance 3 also fell a couple of places to number five.
Another new entry followed that, the latest expansion for the Sims 3 entitled Pets. Pro Evolution Soccer 2012 slipped to number seven, and Rage settled behind it at number eight.
Zumba Fitness continues to sell at number nine, with the top ten rounded off by Gears of War 3.
There were two further new entries in the top forty, with Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One coming in at number twenty-four. Dance Central 2 also debuted on Xbox Kinect, with a disappointing entrance at number forty, only just registering.
