In an unsurprising turn of events, Battlefield 3 has shot straight to number one upon its release.

EA’s game shoved Batman: Arkham City down to number two, with sales of the caped crusader’s sequel halving in its second week.

Battlefield 3 managed to secure a place in the top ten best selling all-format games of all-time in the UK, albeit it at number ten (number nine in terms of revenue).

The war shooter shifted twice as many copies as last year’s Medal of Honor from EA, and indeed it outsold all the other debut weeks of previous Battlefield games, even if you add them all together.

However, Modern Warfare 3, which is due to be released early next month, will doubtless eclipse these figures.

In third place behind Batman was FIFA 12, which will likely be a fixture in the top ten for some time to come if FIFA 11 was anything to go by. The other footy game which is currently selling well, Football Manager 2012, stayed just behind it at number four.

Just Dance 3 remained static at number five for the second week running, followed by Forza 4, then the pets expansion for Sims 3.

Zumba Fitness was at number eight, and Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure edged up to number nine, with Rage just clinging on inside the top ten behind it.

There were no new entries in this week’s top ten save for Battlefield, although Kinect Sports 2 managed to make the top twenty at number eighteen. That’s a little disappointing compared to the original’s sales figures.

Dragon Ball Z: Ultimate Tenkaichi was also new at number twenty-three.
