Modern Warfare 3 still number one

Sales drop by almost 90%, but it's still enough to outdo Assassin's Creed

Modern Warfare 3 is still top of the UK all-format game chart, in news which will come as no surprise to anyone.

Sales of Activision’s shooter were down close to 90%, but it still shifted enough units to keep the top spot and hold off Ubisoft’s big game launch, Assassin’s Creed: Revelations.

Revelations came in at number two and outsold last year’s Brotherhood by close to 10% in terms of revenue, half that in terms of units shifted.

Skyrim continued to sell well but slipped one place to number three, managing to stay ahead of another big new entry, Saints Row: The Third.

Number five saw FIFA 12 still selling strongly, and then there were another two new entries in a major flurry of releases last week: Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary followed by Zelda: Skyward Sword (single format releases, both of them).

That meant Battlefield 3 was pushed way down to number eight, followed by the fifth new entry of the week, Super Mario 3D Land on the 3DS. Just Dance 3 rounded off the top ten.

Need for Speed: The Run disappointed, failing to make the top ten on its launch week, although only just as it entered the chart at number eleven. Last year’s Hot Pursuit sold double the numbers and managed to hit number three, showing interest in EA’s driving franchise is clearly waning.

Other new entries in the top twenty included Lego Harry Potter: Years 5-7 at number thirteen, and Mario & Sonic London 2012 Olympic Games at number twenty.
