Spotify arrives on Virgin Media TiVo

Streaming music hooked up to your home cinema system

November 29, 2011

There’s some good news for streaming music loving Virgin Media customers, as a Spotify app has now arrived on Virgin’s TiVo service.

The app rolled out starting this morning, but the catch is that you need to be a premium subscriber to Spotify to be able to use it on TiVo.

Although Virgin Media is currently running an offer whereby new broadband customers – or those renewing – get six months of free premium Spotify (indeed new mobile customers get three free months, too).

The new app is exclusive to Virgin Media and if you want to find it, then it will predictably enough be hanging around in the Apps and Games section of your TiVo service.

You’ll be able to use your TiVo remote to stream music, browse playlists and all the usual gubbins, listening to your favourite tunes through your home cinema system rather than PC speakers.

Andreas Liffgarden, Global Head of Telecom Business Development for Spotify, commented: “TV is now totally interactive. You can now use your TiVo to record your favorite programme, rent movies on demand or even bend time by rewinding live TV. And TV has changed in form factor too. What used to be a big cube is now a flat screen connected to the speakers and surround sound system in your home.”

“Since we like our users to enjoy the world’s best music under the best possible conditions, it made perfect sense for us to develop this great Spotify app for Virgin Media TiVo.”
