Hold on to your hats, bargain hunters, in this case those out for a television bargain come the sales.
Because Asda has a deal popping up next week, in stores and online, which is certainly the cheapest price we’ve ever seen for a 720p HDTV. £50, no less (well, it couldn’t be much less, let’s face it).
There are a few caveats though. Firstly, this is a 15.6 inch TV made by Venturer, so it’s a pretty small screen even for a portable second television.
The spec is actually fairly good otherwise considering the price point – there’s LED backlighting, a Freeview tuner on board and an HDMI port as well as a SCART input (there wouldn’t be much point it being an HDTV if it didn’t have HDMI, mind).
But it’s a bit of a worry that the quality of the unit will have been skimped on given the low price. Still, it isn’t fair to judge before we’ve seen the set, so we’ll give this one the benefit of the doubt.
The Venturer deal goes live on boxing day, some sources are reporting, but we’ve heard word that it was actually available earlier today from some folks posting on deal forums. Not the most reliable of sources, true enough…
And the TV isn’t available at the time of writing – not online anyway, as a search currently returns the product as “no longer available”. We’d imagine that’s a temporary situation, though.
