The latest rumour on the Apple front is that the company is planning an important event this month.
However, it won’t be a hardware launch by all accounts, so it would seem there’s no danger of the iPad 3 announcement arriving early, or indeed the much rumoured Apple TV (or the next iPhone, for that matter).
DigiTimes, as ever, is the source of the leak, with the event apparently happening in New York, not the West coast where the big hardware launches are held.
It’s expected that Eddy Cue will head this one up, the boss of net software and services, so it’s thought this will be a media content related or software announcement.
The most likely candidates are something to do with e-books or iAds, Apple’s advertising platform.
The fact that it has been labelled as important is intriguing, though, and perhaps Apple will be holding the event next week. That would mean it clashed with the Consumer Electronics Show, which the company doesn’t attend, stealing some of the thunder from CES.
Apple has certainly used this tactic before – although to really steal any thunder, it would have to be something like the iPad 3 unveiling. Eddy Cue wouldn’t be chairing that, though.
We’ll doubtless find out in the next couple of weeks exactly what the New York event will bring.
The iPad 3 announcement is likely to be the next really big Apple event, however. That could potentially happen next month if an early spring launch is on the cards.
