FIFA 12 has remained at the top of the UK all-format game chart for the fifth week running.
FIFA 11 was very popular, but has been outdone by its successor, which has now sold more than any other FIFA title ever – and indeed, more than any other sports video game ever.
In total, it has spent seven weeks at number one (it was top of the pops for two weeks upon launch). Although while the game may have outsold FIFA World to the World Cup 98, it still has a way to go to beat that veteran title’s run of eleven weeks at the top of the chart.
Along with FIFA 12, RPG Skyrim also continues to sell well, moving up a place to number two, and pushing Just Dance 3 down to number three.
Next are the two big shooters, Modern Warfare 3 and Battlefield 3, followed by Zumba Fitness at number six.
Saints Row: The Third moved up to number seven, with Zumba Fitness 2 at number eight, and then Rayman: Origins.
Finally, the resurgent shooter Rage remained at number ten.
Assassin’s Creed Revelations and Need for Speed: The Run both fell out of the top ten, down to numbers twelve and fourteen respectively.
Of course, we’re in one of the quiet periods for gaming – the start of the year, and mid-summer – where launches are few and far between, so there were no new entries.
Resident Evil: Revelations is out this week, so should make an impact on the next chart, but a limited one as it’s a single format game (3DS only).
The next batch of big releases likely to finally oust FIFA 12 from the top comes the following week, the start of February, with the likes of Final Fantasy XIII-2 and SoulCalibur V hitting the shelves.
