The results of this year’s Interactive Achievement Awards (IAA) are in, with Skyrim doing very well for itself indeed.
Skyrim took the coveted Game of the Year accolade which was scooped by the multi-award winning Mass Effect 2 last year.
Bethesda’s RPG took five awards in total, with Skyrim also winning the best RPG, Game Direction, Game Engineering, and Storyline.
The other two multiple winners at the IAA were Portal 2 and Uncharted 3.
Uncharted 3 took home three awards, all of them graphics related – Visual Engineering, Animation and Art Direction. Portal 2 bagged three as well, for Original Music, Character Performance and Connectivity.
Action Game of the Year was won by Modern Warfare 3, with no surprises when it came to the Sport Game of the Year, taken by EA’s big selling FIFA 12.
Forza 4 won the racing category, and Batman: Arkham City was Adventure Game of the Year.
The reboot of Mortal Kombat was Fighting Game of the Year, and Super Mario 3D Land scooped the best handheld game accolade.
There was something of a surprise when it came to the best strategy game, however, in which Orcs Must Die was victorious.
Fruit Ninja for Kinect found itself labelled Casual Game of the Year, with the social game award taken home by The Sims Social.
Star Wars: The Old Republic was a winner when it came to Outstanding Achievement in Online Gameplay, despite criticisms we’ve heard about the end-game being very lacking.
