Orange has revealed that its Santa Clara smartphone will be on sale in the near future.
The network operator has slapped the handset up on its site, with a “coming soon” notice, and a link to register your interest, so you can be emailed when the Santa Clara emerges.
Why should you care about the Santa Clara? Well, it’s an interesting smartphone given the fact that it’s powered by an Intel Atom processor, and will be one of the first such devices to land in the UK.
The CPU is a Medfield 1.6GHz affair, with the phone also boasting a 4.03in display, an 8 megapixel camera, and 16GB of internal memory. The camera is capable of HD video recording, and can shoot 10 pictures per second.
Disappointingly, though, the device will only come with Android Gingerbread (2.3) on board.
The Santa Clara is exactly 1cm thick, well actually, it’s 0.1mm under, and weighs a touch under 120 grams.
It’ll certainly be interesting to see how apps and games run on the Intel engine (Orange is also promising exclusive apps, incidentally).
An exact release date and pricing for the smartphone have still to be confirmed, but we shall keep our eyes peeled and let you know as soon as we spot an announcement.
