Now TV, Sky’s new streaming service to lock horns with the likes of Lovefilm and Netflix, went live back on July 17th on the PC, Mac, and some Android handsets.
Sky promised that an iOS version would be out within a month, and indeed they’ve managed to get the app out far faster than that, in a fortnight, no less.
If you pop along to the Apple App Store, you can now pick up the Now TV app for your iPhone or iPad. The app requires iOS 5 and can be used on the iPhone 3GS or better, iPod touch fourth generation, or any iPad.
As for other platforms, Now TV should arrive on the Xbox before the summer is out, and is also coming to the YouView box, and PS3 at a later date.
For those of you who missed the launch of Sky’s new service, it offers movies for one-off payments (starting from 99 pence for older flicks), or you can take out a Movies Pass subscription for unlimited viewing of over 600 films – but that costs £15 per month.
Upon the launch of the service, Simon Creasey, Director of Now TV, commented: “Offering a new and exciting way to enjoy Sky Movies on some of the most popular internet-connected devices, NOW TV gives films fans everywhere a new choice.”
“As we move forward, NOW TV will get even bigger and better, with more devices and more platforms in the coming months. Customers can also look forward to the best live action from Sky Sports and great drama, comedy and entertainment from our Sky channels.”
As to whether it can compete with the cheaper offerings from the likes of Lovefilm Instant, we shall have to see. Sky is counting on film exclusives to attract viewers, despite its pricier nature.
