The Golden Joystick Awards for 2012 took place at the end of last week, and the Ultimate Game of the Year was judged to be The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

The runner ups to Skyrim were Battlefield 3 and Diablo III.

Skyrim scooped the best RPG award as well, naturally enough, and it also won the award for Top Gaming Moment, for the “Throat of the World” scene – making it a triplet of awards for the role-playing epic.

FIFA 12 was the only other game to bag multiple awards, winning two: The Best Sports game, and the award for Outstanding Contribution.

Batman: Arkham City won the Best Action Game, with the runner ups being Assassin’s Creed: Revelations and Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception.

Battlefield 3 was declared the best shooter of 2012.

The Best Downloadable game was Minecraft (on the X360), and the Best Fighter was Mortal Kombat Komplete Edition.

The top racing game was judged to be Forza 4, the Best Handheld title Uncharted: Golden Abyss, and the Best MMO the free-to-play World of Tanks.

The Best Strategy game? That was Civilization V: Gods and Kings, with the best Mobile Tablet game being judged as Angry Birds Space.

Finally the One to Watch award for the most anticipated upcoming title went to Grand Theft Auto V, with Assassin’s Creed III and The Elder Scrolls Online being the runner ups.
