There’s no surprise in announcing that Assassin’s Creed III has gone straight to number one in the UK all-format game chart upon its release on the Xbox and PS3 mid-last-week.
It outperformed Revelations, the last instalment in the series, by 120,000 units – and it doubled the sales of Assassin’s Creed II. The Xbox represented the lion’s share, 60 per cent, of AC3 sales.
AC3 is the second biggest selling launch title this year, only failing to beat FIFA 13, which is still holding at number two after its release some weeks ago.
Medal of Honor: Warfighter, which was number one last week, slipped heavily to number six, as three big new entries pushed past it.
They were WWE 13 which came in at number three, followed by Football Manager 2013, and then Need for Speed Most Wanted (EA chose the wrong week to unleash that game – it still sold better than the last NFS episode to the tune of almost 20,000 units).
Another driving game, Forza Horizon, was behind Warfighter at number seven, and Skylanders Giants found itself at number eight.
Just Dance 4 and Dishonored rounded out the top ten, also taking a pummelling from the sales of all those big new releases.
