Roku set-top box owners will be pleased to hear that Sky’s Now TV service has pitched up on their hardware.
Now TV is Sky’s answer to Lovefilm and Netflix streaming, with the service offering exclusive films, and one-off online rentals – though you can also pay a subscription for unlimited viewing of Now TV’s library, as with Lovefilm and Netflix.
The difference with Now TV, though, is that fee is substantially higher at £15 per month, not far off the level of a basic Sky TV subscription itself.
Techradar notes that this isn’t really a surprising move, given that BSkyB invested multi-millions into Roku this summer.
The addition is certainly great news for Roku users, though, as the platform has a somewhat limited range of content still – Neflix is on board, but not Lovefilm, despite the fact that noises were made about the latter signing up at the beginning of 2012. That still hasn’t happened…
Roku boxes come in a standard model at £50, and the Roku 2 XS, a full 1080p HD streamer at £100.
