Google has revealed its Zeitgeist for 2012, the most heavily searched for trending terms of the year in the UK.

And the number one UK trending search term was Euro 2012, believe it or not – and not the Olympics, as you might have expected. Olympics tickets did come in at number two, though.

Whitney Houston was the third most popular search, and the most popular person, ahead of Kate Middleton in fourth place.

April Jones was fifth, and Netflix was in sixth place, a good sign for the streaming service which came to the UK at the start of the year.

The rest of the top ten comprised of Natwest Online, the iPad 3, Gary Barlow and Gangnam Style (of course – and this was, naturally, the number one song which was searched for).

So, no great surprises there save for Netflix and Natwest Online (the latter, of course, prompted by the banking glitches back in the summer, but we’re surprised that made such an impact).
