The Nook Video store is now open for business in the UK.

Previously, the store was a US-only affair, but now owners of Nook HD and HD+ tablets can watch shows and movies via the store in the UK.

The service lets you stream or download films, in both standard definition and HD, and it also supports Ultraviolet – the digital rights licensing system, which is cloud-based with a “buy once, play anywhere” policy. It also gives you online access to Ultraviolet-branded (physical) discs which you’ve bought.

With all that in mind, Nook Video is also coming as an app to other platforms aside from Barnes & Noble tablets, to allow you to stream your purchased collection on other devices.

The 7 inch Nook HD starts at £159, in competition with the Kindle Fire HD, with the larger 9 inch Nook HD+ starting at £229.
