Dishonored grabs Best Game BAFTA

Journey scoops five awards, though

The British Academy Games Awards took place on Tuesday night, and the somewhat unexpected winner of the coveted Best Game title for last year was Dishonored.

It was widely thought that Journey, which has been critically acclaimed in every corner of the PlayStation gaming universe, would scoop top honours, so to speak.

However, Dishonored – the stealth action epic which was also very well thought of, even if some elements of the story were criticised – beat Journey to it.

That doesn’t mean Journey didn’t do well, though. In fact, it picked up a whopping five awards for Online Multiplayer, Game Design, Artistic Achievement, Original Music and
Audio Achievement.

Whereas Dishonored only picked up the one award! Albeit an important one…

In fact, there were only two other games which picked up multiple awards, both The Walking Dead and The Unfinished Swan scooping up a pair of awards apiece.

In The Walking Dead’s case, it won for both Story and Mobile Game, and The Unfinished Swan grabbed Best Debut Game and Innovation.

So there was plenty of attention away from the usual AAA franchises – and indeed FIFA failed to win top Sports Game, with indie affair New Star Soccer scooping the accolade. That really is a bit of a shock – but all power to creator Simon Read.
