Asus has announced that its Transformer AiO all-in-one PC will be out in the UK next month, with pricing starting at £999.
The idea is that this is a convertible all-in-one, so that the display comes away from the PC chassis and can be carried around and used as a standalone tablet. A pretty big standalone tablet, mind, given that the display is an 18.4 inch affair.
The tablet has an Nvidia Tegra 3 processor and runs Android 4.1, but when housed in the desktop PC station, you’ll be using a full Intel Core Ivy Bridge processor and Windows 8.
The flexibility is an interesting idea, although of course you’ll only be using this large tablet around the home, and even then, it might be tiring to hold such a hefty unit for long. Asus even notes it’s designed for tabletop use.
The company says: “ASUS Transformer AiO switches seamlessly between operating systems at the press of a button and has up to five hours’ battery life. The display also features a convenient carrying handle and a folding stand for comfortable tabletop use away from the PC Station.”
Along with an up to Core i7 CPU, the all-in-one boasts Nvidia GeForce GT 730M graphics, and the 18.4 LED-backlit, IPS screen is full 1080p resolution.
According to the Inquirer, the £999 basic model will come with a Core i5 CPU, 4GB of RAM and a 1TB hard drive, with the top-end Core i7 doubling up on the RAM and storage, and costing £1,299.
We’re not sure there’ll be a huge demand at those sort of prices, mind you.
