Is everything just a joke to the media?

April 25, 2007

Yahoo InvasionOn the potentially historic day when astronomers announced what could be one of the greatest and most meaningful discoveries in the near-universe (and the day that sadly saw the loss of 1966 hero Alan Ball :( ) Yahoo have to poke fun at it by linking it to a story about ‘Little Green Men’. Shame on them.

European astronomers have detected what they say is the most Earth-like planet yet outside our solar system, with temperatures that could support water in liquid form. That means that it could also support life. The planet is orbiting a red dwarf star called Gliese 581.

So what is it with huge sections of the media? Is nothing sacred?

Nothing that’s worth doing in life, worth fighting for or worth preserving is anything more than just a cheap headline to them.

We should be OK for the rest of the day though, as they’ll be running some insincere and bile-inducing pap on one of England’s greatest footballing heroes.

RIP Alan, and let’s hope that the new world is taken more seriously than this one.
