The BBC has made its iPlayer available as an app for BlackBerry smartphones. The app promises a slick interface and a more seamless iPlayer experience than BlackBerry owners were previously used to with the mobile website version. You can download the free iPlayer app from the BlackBerry App World. It’s compatible with the Storm 2, Bold 9700 and Torch 9800 phones running OS 5 or better.

David Cameron has announced that the government will be undertaking a six month review of the UK’s copyright laws. The Prime Minister said: “I can announce today that we are reviewing our IP laws, to see if we can make them fit for the Internet age. I want to encourage the sort of creative innovation that exists in America.” The idea is to loosen the restrictive laws, and introduce “fair use” provisions to help small businesses to avoid expensive costs in seeking out permission from rights holders.

3 has announced that it will be carrying the LG Optimus One Android 2.2 phone. The handset will be available on The One Plan deal, costing £30 per month (with the phone free) over two years. That bags you 2000 minutes, 5000 texts, and 1GB of mobile data. Or you can nab it on the Internet Texter 500 plan for £20 per month over two years, which gives you 500 minutes, 5000 texts, and 1GB of data. The Optimus One boasts a 3.2 inch display, 600MHz processor, and a 3 megapixel camera.
