Monday NewsBytes: Samsung Galaxy Tab price drop; Dixons pulls Toshiba Folio 100; Froyo imminent for Dell Streak

The Samsung Galaxy Tab has been given another price haircut. After reducing it to £480 just before the weekend, Amazon has now downed it to £469. Dixons and Currys have dropped it to the same price, and indeed if you use the £25 off voucher code here, you can get the Samsung slate for just £444 at the latter. However, this code expires tomorrow. At that price, it’s only £15 more than the wi-fi only iPad (and the Tab comes with 3G).

More tablet news, this time regarding the Toshiba Folio 100, another iPad rival. Again, DSG is involved, with Dixons, PC World and Currys halting the sale of the Toshiba slate. Apparently there has been a high rate of returns, so high that the shops have pulled the product for now, while they work with Toshiba to identify what the issue in question is. Talk about off on the wrong foot, and then some…

Froyo (Android 2.2) is due out on the Dell Streak in the next two weeks. C-net spotted that Dell posted on its Facebook page: “[The company] will begin a roll out of the 2.2 update OTA before the end of Nov. This is happening over a period of time and staggered by region, starting in the UK. You will receive notification of the update directly on your Streak.” The only question that remains is, with Gingerbread almost finished in the oven, how long will it be before Streak owners get to play with that.
