Fitwatch is a website which was taken offline by the Met police yesterday, because it was offering advice to students involved in the recent tuition fees protest who feared they might be subsequently identified. However, the site was brought back online this morning, refusing to lie down. A post on the front page declared: “We’re back, with a secure server, massive coverage and a clear message that we’re here to stay.” According to Fitwatch, there are also now over a hundred websites which are carrying the message that caused the site to be taken down.

Farningham, a village in Kent, has the slowest broadband in the UK according to a Top10.com study. It offers residents an average connection of 1.3Mbps. Second slowest was the Scottish Borders town of Duns, on 1.43Mbps, and then Harbury in Warwickshire which managed just 1.51Mbps. At number twenty was a city, Worcester, with a speed of 2.01Mbps. A none too comforting revelation for the 100,000 or so people who live there. The data for the study was compiled using 100,000 speed tests run over several months.

Google has dipped one of its many tentacles into the world of fashion, launching the Boutiques.com site. The concept is a personalised shopping experience where the site determines your tastes from a range of 40 or so questions where you’ve got to choose which outfit you prefer. It can then recommend the sort of clothes you’re likely to appreciate, and provide links to retailers, direct to their sites or virtual presence on Boutiques.com. Currently it’s a US only site built for women, but there are plans for its expansion.
