Default Samsung Galaxy S2

I bought a samsung galaxy s2 off a friend and its on the 2.3.6 version. It has been unlocked (still has t-mobile branding on it though) and rooted. What i want to know is if i update it via samsung to the latest software which is ICS 4. something would the phone be locked to t-mobile again? i know i will loose the root access im not bothered with that all i want to do it update it to the latest software, but afraid of it being locked back to t-mobile.
Thanks for your help and time.

I think you should contact to Samsung Support and ask them directly about this matter. I hope that you will get good help from them.

if it was unlocked using a flash patch then it will become locked again, if codes were used or the NVS data area modified then you should be fine as an update rarely touches the NV/EFS area of the phone.

Thanks for your reply. Is there a way i can find out if a patch had been used or if it was unlocked via codes.

I also used Samsung galaxy s2 which is nice smartphone but as per the your problem concern I would like to suggest that meet the Samsung customers support center where you will get the solution of your locked smartphone.

Samsung s2 can't be flash patched, (there was never one released for s2)
If its unlocked it has had a full unlock, upgrading/ installing custom firmware will retain the unlock.

Early NSpro releases used to flash patch to unlock, I know this because everytime I updated my phone I had to unlock it. In the later releases they did a permanent unlock
