Cheers mate.

If I get a decent/special lnb on the Sky Digital dish could I get more channels from a wider frequency range?

I think I'll get on this this week.

No, The frequency range of universal LNBs is the same, around 10-12GHz.

Right I got a Skystar 2 on Ebay for 45 quid, it had a remote with it which may be useful,

I have decided to set up the ish at the back of the house that points west I'll do this before doing the Sky as I don't want to mess up the Sky, so I'll do that when I am more confident. Is there any way to find out if the LNB on the dish is any good? I'll buy some new cable and connect it to the LNB that is on there first to save cash initially.

Thanks again foir the help.

Without special equipment, the easiest way is to stick it on a dish and see if you can pick up any signals.

Cool I'll get the cable and see what happens.

I am quite excited - what a nerd I am.

Cheers for the help, this could be a much healthier hobby than my current one - binge drinking.

No, I always get excited when I start messing around with the dish in the garden. Even though I have manually aligned a dish, probably more than 20 times now, its still good when you get a signal.

Getting pie eyed while trying to align a dish makes it even more interesting.

RG6 is the cheap rubbish, with aluminium foil rather than copper.

The best cables use copper braid on coper foil.

I always stick to wf100 myself, a 100m reel is not much more.

Coaxial satellite digital fully-screened cable

+vat and postage, you may be able to find it cheaper elsewhere, but satcure do f-connectors that fit very easily onto wf100.

Finally got round to connecting up ,y SkyStar 2 as I moved into a room at the back of the house and could feed the coax already attached to the dish into the room. The coax had been loose and may have been ruined, but it seemed okay and got nothing. Probably the old style LNB yeah?

Connected the SkyStar to the SKy dish and got shed loads of channels. Probably moving soon, so will get a specific package instead of using this old dish. Any recommendations for the size dish to get some 3 O@clock footy and some decent foriegn language channels, for like documentaries and news, so I can learn a langauge from well spoken speech?

Thanks in advance, this forum is great.

For football the DigitAlb package on 16E is the best one to go for. Subs are approx 160 per year.

For foreign languages, for european ones, you can take your pick from Hotbird 13E and Astra1 19.2E, plus many others, it depends on what language you want.

Dish wise, go for the maximum you can get away with without needing planning permission, which 1m.
