Default Joost

Anyone tried Joost??

Ive just downloaded it started the installer, got as far as the "legal mumbo jumbo" bit and found some things I really dont like in it.

For starters they can spring adverts at you in the interface and within the programmes at any time

Its another bleedin peer to peer application so they are using YOUR bandwith and resources whilst THEY make money

Quote:
2.1.3. The Joost Software will utilize the processor, bandwidth and hard drive (or other memory or storage hardware) and/or cache of your computer (or other applicable device) for the limited purpose of facilitating the communication between, and the transmittal of data, content, programming, services or features to, you and other Joost Software users, and to facilitate the operation of the network of computers running instances of the Joost Software.
They expressly prohibit using firewalls etc to "interfere with the running of the programme".

FOAD Joost do you think we are completely stupid?

LOL, I'm totally with you on this one mate, though it's not a dodgy pirate/torrent-type outfit.

The only way I would consider doing this (and I guess I will at some point) is to have a DMZ with the slutty sharing box on it, and then just scrub anything I chose to pull through the hedge to my LAN.

You could then just restore an image backup to the thing when it got trashed. Bandwidth could be more of a problem, but you can manage that through the router config.

Lol! I had Joost spam one of my other forums - 15 junk posts to get past the spam filters, then a couple of ads with links. So I posted a press release about it:
Joost fires up spam marketing campaign

You could have added that their legal guff has been called into question - some of my acidic comments about their operating processes & practices would just make that report

I went to the joost site and right away they promise you a bunch of content then force you to download and install some mysterious software onto your computer.
Yeah, right.
Why don't they just stream the channels right to the website so you can just watch it.
I'm not downloading any of their software. :s
